To our wonderful guests who have already booked or are thinking of booking a stay at Loose Reins…

As we write this update, we are all living with a government instructed lockdown. Whilst our Prime Minister has modified the restrictions since they were first put in place, it still applies to many aspects of the way we all live. Whilst we hope that it will be safe to resume holiday activity sooner rather than later, the government has not yet given the green light for this. Many of you will be wondering what the restrictions mean for a booking with Loose Reins so we’ve aimed to cover the questions you might have in our FAQ section below. If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please do get in touch. In any case, we’d love to hear from you.

Together with the rest of the Loose Reins team, we thank everyone for the many messages of concern and support we've received. We return that support and concern to you and those dear to you; we hope very much that you all stay well.

Looking to the future, these difficult times will pass and the world will become a safer place again. Loose Reins will be here to provide you with a magical escape. We are using this time to give everything an extra polish - it is looking truly beautiful here and it will be wonderful to welcome guests again.

  • Q1: My holiday at Loose Reins is booked during the government lockdown period. What will happen?

    A: We want to reassure you that your booking is safe if the government travel restrictions mean you are unable to take it as planned. Although the usual route in these circumstances would be for you to claim on your travel insurance, we still want you to enjoy a magical Loose Reins holiday when we are able to re-open. Therefore, we’ll gladly move your booking and waive the usual admin fee. We just ask that you make up the difference if you move to a more expensive date. Or if your revised dates cost less, we will reduce your balance accordingly. If it is at all possible for you to move to another time this year we would be very grateful as carrying over to next year will prolong the impact on us and our small business. If this is not possible, we will be happy to look for a date within 12 months of your original stay dates. Whilst you are welcome to contact us about postponing your holiday, you don’t have to - we’re getting in touch with everyone affected in chronological order and you’ll hear from us soon if not already. If the lockdown period is extended again, we will apply the same approach if your booking is affected.
  • Q2: The balance on my holiday becomes payable soon. What should I do?

    A: Balance payments are normally due 8 weeks before your holiday arrival date. However, we will flex this and delay the payment date to another time nearer your stay if it looks as though travel restrictions may not be lifted in time for your holiday.
  • Q3: I would like to book a holiday with Loose Reins as something to look forward to. How do I do it?

    A: Bookings can be made in the same way as usual, either on our website or by calling us on 01258 863533. Our bookings calendar is currently closed until July but you can book holidays with arrival from then onwards. We are keeping a close eye on government travel advice and will amend this if needed.
  • Q4: I would like to book a holiday with Loose Reins as something to look forward to. What’s your approach to payments at this time?

    A: There would be a 30% non-refundable deposit as usual at the time of booking. Normally the balance is payable 8 weeks ahead but we would be flexible with this and delay the payment date if the lock down is ongoing. If you wish to book a holiday less than 8 weeks away, please call us as our online booking system will automatically request the full amount rather than just the deposit. Let's hope very much that we are able to move more freely soon, but if these travel restrictions are extended and stop you coming as planned we will move your booking, carry over what you have paid towards your accommodation and waive the usual admin fee. We'd just ask that you make up the difference if you move to a more expensive time. Or if your revised dates cost less, we will reduce your balance accordingly. 
  • Q5: I would like to book a holiday with Loose Reins as something to look forward to. Should I take out travel insurance?

    A: We always recommend that you have appropriate insurance in place when booking a holiday with us. Do take care to ensure your chosen policy provides the cover you need; many policies do not cover holidays affected by a pandemic lockdown.
  • Q6: Once we are able to travel and take a holiday again, what changes are you making at Loose Reins to reduce the risks associated with coronavirus?
    A: First of all, we’re lucky to sit in over 13 acres of beautiful Dorset countryside – that’s a lot of room! With just three cabins and three lodges, each set in its own generous green space, you’ll be surrounded by fresh air. Loose Reins is truly the perfect place for an “isocation”!

    Before the lock down came into effect, we implemented sensible extra precautions and cleaning in line with formal guidance and we’ll update this as and when further guidance emerges. This includes bringing in additional members of our housekeeping team to give us more hours in the day, sourcing virucidal cleaning products, and running training with our team members to deepen our already thorough cleaning procedures. We’ve also removed all unnecessary soft furnishings leaving our fresh, white, professionally laundered linen and towels.

    To further support our guests and team in staying healthy, we’ll be operating a virtual check-in and check-out process in order to minimise human contact. Our luggage service will still be available for guests with mobility considerations; just let us know and we’ll line up our freshly cleaned buggy. For the time being, we’ll suspend activities that involve human contact such as the Buckaroo Club, and we'll close The Hitching Post, our communal space for chilling and hanging out. Our general store is an honesty shop with no need for staff and you have the option to pay remotely for any purchases in one final online transaction; we'll ask that only guests from the same party enter the shop at the same time and we will be cleaning it daily. You can choose all the meals you need from our delicious menu – simply pop in the oven whilst enjoying something chilled, or opt for one of our tasty BBQ packs for some outdoor cooking on your firepit. So it’s easy to batten down the hatches and beat a total retreat if you wish.

    With all of that in place, we’ll be quietly getting on with homestead life. Loose Reins is where the world slows down and we’ll be here to help you leave the daily grind at the gate, to connect with a place of experience, discovery and relaxation.

    In Dorset we are blessed with a wealth of nature’s activities, places to see and things to do. Wide open spaces with hardly another soul in sight. See the world from the Wessex Ridgeway. Walk through the woods and see the deer. Take a picnic. Dine out in nature. Listen for birdsong or the rustle of woodland wildlife. Share tales from the trail. Smell the wood smoke. Plan tomorrow’s adventure. Hire a bike and explore, walk on our Ancient Hill Forts, paddle in the river or explore the Blackmore Vale. Take a trip to the Jurassic Coast and find a fossil.
